Welcome

Our Service

We are an independent and confidential advice, information and support service. Our service is for parents/carers of children aged 0-19 with special educational needs (SEN).

The aim of the service is to enable parents to make informed decisions about their child's education, ensuring that they have the advice, information and the support to make those decisions. We also aim to develop partnerships between parents, schools, statutory and voluntary organisations for the benefit of all children with SEN and give parents a voice so that their views are taken into consideration in the planning and delivering of services.

Our service is funded by Sandwell's Children and Young People's Services . All Local Authorities have a duty to make this service available to parents.

We can help parents by:
  • listening to parents views and concerns about their children' educational needs
  • helping parents to express their views
  • supporting parents in preparing for meetings and accompanying parents at meetings
  • assisting with filling in forms and writing letters/reports
  • giving access to a parent/LEA forum
We offer support by:
  • Providing clear, accurate and impartial advice and information about SEN
  • Offering guidance through SEN processes and procedures
  • Helping parents to work in partnership with schools and local education authorities
  • Enabling parents to recognize and use their rights to ensure the educational needs of their child are met
  • Placing parents in contact with other support services and organisations
  • Providing support for parents where disability, language or cultural differences may be barriers to participation
  • Help resolving disputes
  • Access to mediation service
We provide:
  • A telephone helpline
  • An information service on other organisations and support groups
  • Regular Newsletters
  • Access to Parent Befriender
  • A Parent/LEA Forum
